Maria A. Basile is on the substitute faculty for Mannes College, the New School for Music (Preparatory Division) as well as at the Center for Preparatory Studies in Music at the Aaron Copland School of Music (ACSM) at Queens College of the City University of New York. She was an intern at the New York Philharmonic for the fall 2011 semester, and currently is a College Assistant in the ACSM library. She regularly tutors music theory, ear-training (including sight-singing and dictation), keyboard harmony, and music history.

Ms. Basile has earned a Bachelor's degree in Music (magna cum laude) at the ACSM, where she is currently pursuing a Master of Arts degree in Music Theory. Academic achievements include Dean's List status for multiple semesters and membership in the Queens College chapter of the Golden Key International Honour Society. She has been the recipient of many awards at the ACSM, including the Claire Bartels Outstanding Freshman Award, the Anna Barkai Scholarship, Departmental High Honors, and the Karol Rathaus Memorial Award.

Within the music department at Queens College, Ms. Basile is a twice-elected member of the Student-Faculty Committee, initially having served as an undergraduate member and currently as the graduate member. She participated in the campus chapter of the Music Educators National Conference (MENC) and served as secretary of the QC chapter of the American Choral Director's Association (ACDA). Beyond the walls of the college, she is a member of the Society for Music Theory (SMT), the Music Theory Society of New York State (MTSNYS), and the American Musicological Society (AMS).

An active member of the QC community, Ms. Basile has been recognized with awards granted for service and dedication to the music department, including the ACSM Department Service Award and the "Discimus ut Serviamus" award (twice). In Fall 2011 she was the Chair of the ACSM Alumni Committee and helped arrange the first-annual Alumni Concert. She is a staff writer for Queens College's newspaper, The Knight News, and ran a column, "Program Notes," covering events at the ACSM before the Entertainment section was dissolved into Features. For two years she worked as a Resident Assistant in Queens College's new residence hall, The Summit, and was among the first group of RAs hired.

Ms. Basile enjoys singing in her school and church choirs, and has premiered "From Bettina's Christmas Greetings," a song cycle by Joel Mandelbaum. While in the Queens College Choir, Ms. Basile sang as a member of the chorus in an award-winning production of Monteverdi's L'Orfeo in 2009, and was one of the representatives of the Choir in the ACDA NYC Fall Conference Day Collegiate Honor Choir in October 2010. The QC Choir went on tour to Cortland, NY, and Rochester, NY for the New York State School Music Association December 2010 Conference, at which the choir was the only collegiate group asked to perform. The choir made a Naxos recording with Bright Sheng of his work, "Two Folk Songs from Qinghai," later that month. Currently, she sings with the QC Vocal Ensemble, an intimate group that specializes in a cappella music from the Renaissance to the 21st-century.
